After news broke via Gawker that former CIA Director David Petraeus would be making $200,000 to teach a single course at CUNY's Macaulay Honors College, some politicians and professors expressed outrage. However, the New York Times is reporting that Petraeus will now only make $1 dollar as a visiting professor this upcoming academic year.
“Once controversy arose about the amount he was being paid, he decided it was much more important to keep the focus on the students, on the school and on the teaching, and not have it be about the money,” Petraeus' lawyer Robert Barnett told the NY Times. Petraeus resigned as CIA director in 2012 after news broke of his extra-marital affair with his biographer.
