'Most Wanted Deadbeat Parent' Gets Jail Time

A Long Island man nicknamed the "Most Wanted Deadbeat Parent" was sentenced on Tuesday to two-and-a-half years in prison. So what did Robert Sand do to warrant this nickname? He fled to Asia to avoid paying over $1 million in child support.

The 50-year-old father of three (from two failed marriages) had pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to pay child support according to NBC New York. Sand was ordered to pay his ex-wife Lisa Sand $750 a week in child support back in 1995 for their two daughters. According to the NY Times, Sand stopped paying after two years before moving to Florida with his new wife. Sand then divorced his second wife and was ordered to pay her $625 a week for their one child together.

Sand soon fled the country after a warrant was issued for his arrest, but he was arrested in December 2012 when he tried to enter the Philippines without identification.
