Taylor Swift's opening act says people watching last month's MTV Video Music Awards accurately read the country singer's lips as One Direction was accepting an award.

But Ed Sheeran says Taylor wasn't commenting on the band.  In a recent radio interview, he says Taylor went to him immediately after the incident and said she thought she'd "messed up."

Ed says Taylor then explained that Selena Gomez had mentioned that she thought she was going to lose the Best Pop Video award to Miley Cyrus - and Taylor used the f-word in reassuring Selena about her chances.

Swift made headlines following the event for her private remark that was caught on camera, with many speculating it was about her ex, One Direction singer Harry Styles.  Neither Swift nor Gomez has spoken about the incident.

Sounds like a case of bad timing!
